MooglyCAL2023 – Block 9
MooglyCAL2023 Block 9 is a dramatic and elegant square by Every Trick on the Hook! The Fairy Wings Square is clever and exciting! This is part of the 2023 Moogly Crochet Along.
Polly Plum is one of my favorite squares designers, and this pattern is another beautifully written example! Yes, there are lots of wonderful special stitches – but she’s also including a video tutorial. That said, the instructions are very well written, and include instructions so you change colors in almost every row.

- Helpful Links and Tutorials: Magic Circle, Chainless Starting Double Crochet, Picot, Popcorn, Extended Double Crochet, Post Stitches, Standing Single Crochet, Standing Double Crochet, 3rd Loop in Hdc, and Seamless Finishing.
- Sizing: Measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
- Materials Used: Susan Bates US-J, 6.0 mm Twist and Lock hook, and Red Heart With Love.
Color Placement Scheme
- Rnd 1: Light Gray
- Rnds 2 – 6: White
- Rnd 7: Light Gray
- Rnd 8: Pewter
- Rnd 9: Light Gray
- Rnd 10: Pewter
- Rnds 11 – 13: White
This square required mild blocking. I used the wet blocking method, or you could use light steam.
