WOVEN CROCHET BABY BLANKET DESIGN PROCESS
I was always in awe of people working at the big weaving machines producing stunning fabrics and I always wanted to have a go at these.
I love the woven look they create. This was an inspiration behind my Meadowside Baby Blanket.
I used crochet to achieve a woven look crochet blanket. There are quite a few crochet blankets with open chain spaces that have strands of yarn woven through with a needle afterwards.
However, when it comes to finishing a crochet project, I am the most impatient person you will ever know!
Especially when a technique is working as I have imagined it and I want to see it completed.
Firstly, I used moss (linen) stitch for the main body of the blanket. Undoubtedly, this is a great stitch for this project as it is not too open for little fingers to get stuck into.
On the other hand, it has enough chain spaces to show of the strands of fabric woven through the crochet baby blanket.
The strands are worked into the blanket as you crochet. There is no additional fiddling with yarn needle threading the strands through.
You should know me by now- I’m all about minimum work with maximum results, right?!

YARN I USED FOR MY WOVEN CROCHET BABY BLANKET
For my woven crochet baby blanket, I used King Cole Cottonsoft DK yarn. The clue is in the name!
Cotton S.O.F.T! Without a doubt, this is one of the softest cotton yarns I have ever come across!
For the strands I used a leftover scraps of West Yorkshire Spinners Retreat yarn I used for my Cottage Blanket.
This woven crochet baby blanket would be a great stashbusting project to use up even the tiniest of scraps as long as they are at least 1 meter long.
Can you imagine the colour choices? You can use completely random colours, rainbow or ombre!
